Psoriasis And Its Different Clinical Types.

 Q 1 ; What is the diagnosis? 

Answer: Nail pitting and psoriasis .

Q 2 : Describe the skin lesions and the clinical features in patients with Psoriasis? 

Answer: The clinical features in psoriasis may differ from patient to patient but the most commonly observed signs and symptoms include:

  • Red patches of skin covered with silvery scales.
  • The patches of psoriasis are seen over the bony prominence, particularly the elbows and knees, and also on the trunk and scalp and in the intragluteal cleft (the latter two areas are frequently overlooked).
  • The plaques are circular with well-defined edges and they are red with a silvery scaly surface.
  • There is pitting of the fingernails. 
  • Dry , cracked skin may sometimes bleed. 
  • There may be associated arthropathy with swollen ad stiff joints. 
Q 3. Describe briefly different types of Psoriasis? 

Answer : There are different types of Psoriasis . A few are described (with pictures) below :

1. Plaque psoriasis: is the most common type and and causes red , dry skin lesions in the form of plaques that are covered with silvery scales. 



2. Guttate Psoriasis: commonly seen in children and young adults and is characterized by small water drop shaped lesions that is covered by a fine scale. Seen on trunk, arms, legs and scalp.



3. Scalp Psoriasis: red patches of skin, covered with silvery scales and a thick crust on the scalp that may bleed if tried to remove.


4. Nail Psoriasis: finger nails and toe nails are affected with pitting, abnormal nail growth and discoloration.


5. Inverse Psoriasis: commonly seen in obese and overweight individuals. Characterized by smooth patches of red inflamed skin, which is worsened by friction and sweating.


6. Erythrodermic Psoriasis: it is the least common type and is seen  rarely. It involves the whole body with a red peeling rash that can cause severe itching and burning.


7. Pustular Psoriasis: it develops quickly and consists of pus filled blisters that are red and tender.
